ICHP Foundation Course - Description
According to statistics, there are about 100,000 insurance practitioners in Hong Kong and only a very small number have received formal medical training. In view of this, the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Health Planners has launched a course specifically for insurance practitioners to enhance their medical knowledge. The course covers the Hong Kong medical system, the division of labour and referral system within the medical profession, the classification of different medical specialties and common cases, how to interpret comprehensive physical examination reports and core indicators and insurance risk assessment, and other important matters.
The course provides systematic teaching, so that students can apply what they have learned to practice in the theories and techniques, ensuring that insurance practitioners can improve their service quality and professional level. After completing the course, students can:

- Equip insurance agents with a fundamental knowledge in health prevention, disease management, navigating private and public health care system, health financing and health insurance products.
- Enable agents to become point of contact for clients in health-related issues.
- Balance an agent’s role in advising in both wealth and health management
- Professionalise “Health Planner” as “Certified Health Planner” and be recognised by the insurance industry as an essential qualification
ICHP Foundation Course - Delivery & Assessment
The course is delivered in two sessions over a Saturday and Sunday of the same weekend delivering 12 hours of delivery plus a one hour assessment at the end of the first day.
Students who meet the following requirements will be awarded the Certificate of Completion:
- Achieved an attendance rate of at least 80% of the 12 contact hours; and
- Pass the assessment with a mark of no less than 70%
Assessment is via a selection of multiple choice questions (MCQ's) that cover all the material in all sections.
Successful candidates will get two certificates, one issued by the ICHP and the other one issued by our university partner, The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, Institute of Knowledge Exchange (IKE).
